Doctor Appointment #2

Our second doctor's appointment was on October 17th. This one I attended solo because Drew had to work. The second appointment is usually a quick one anyway. So I thought..

After waiting 45 minutes I got to see the doctor. I found out I gained 2 pounds and all my blood work came back fine. She told me I could get the flu shot if I wanted and we discussed the sequential screening. This is more blood work and a detailed ultrasound to check for down syndrome etc. Finally she whipped out her Doppler device used to hear the heartbeat. It looks like a microphone attached to a tape recorder. She rubbed the microphone on my belly and after several attempts she couldn't find a heartbeat. I was starting to get stressed but she assured me some babies are stubborn and that it could be the way my uterus was tilted. She eventually sent me down to ultrasound where I got seen right away.

This technician was great. She could tell I was a bit panicked and told me that I wasn't far enough along to be heard by the Doppler device. So, I got to see our baby again. She told me I shot the baby a little adrenaline because the heartbeat was a bit faster, but that everything looked good! Thank god! It was the end of the day and I think she took pity on me...she took her time unlike the 1st tech and showed me all around inside and I got to see a few different angles of the baby. Very cool, but we were bummed Drew wasn't there. I did get another picture out of the deal. Most importantly I heard that heartbeat!

1st Doctor's visit & Ultrasound

I called to make our first doctor's appointment the week after labor day weekend. I was bummed to find out my doctor had taken a leave of absence and that I had to find a new one. Luckily the doctor who delivered both Miles & his brother worked out of the same office so my new doctor was an easy find. I figured who else would be better to deliver our baby.

I had my first appointment with Dr. O'Toole on September 20th. She said everything was fine except she thought I may be farther along than I thought. She ordered me an ultrasound and I was so excited to go to it that I showed up a week early for the appointment. I am definitely feeling a bit more scatter brained these days.

A week later Drew and I actually made it to the real appointment. It was the neatest experience ever. The technician dimmed the lights while we watched on a TV screen. We got to see our little baby with a strong heartbeat. It was also confirmed that I was correct on my dates. We were 8 1/2 weeks. :)

Hello All!

We are expecting and are very excited to share with you the next 7 months. We figured this blog was the best way to keep our out-of-town family and friends up to date on the latest.

Enjoy!
